Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra: Eastern Odyssey – Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Rimsky-Korsakov
With the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Join award-winning conductor Charlotte Corderoy and acclaimed pianist Junyan Chen for an Eastern Odyssey with the BSO at Portsmouth Guildhall.
Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade is a triumphant tribute to the beloved middle eastern folktales; The Arabian Nights. The piece is pulled together by the bewitching melody sung by the solo violin: the voice of the legendary queen and master storyteller, Scheherazade herself. It quickly became a favourite Romantic showpiece and a landmark in the history of descriptive music.
Saint-Saëns’ exquisite Second Piano Concerto shows a youthful high-spiritedness and somewhat juxtaposed themes and movements. The skill of Saint-Saëns the pianist shines throughout, with its virtuosic passages and arpeggios, ultimately sparking to the finale’s tempestuous pyrotechnics. Junyan Chen – pianist and Artistic Director of the Leeds International Chamber Series 2025/26- plays this exquisite piece.
Tickets from £15. Visit the BSO’s concert page for further info.
