This summer, Portsmouth Cathedral invites you to unwind at the end of the week with a new series of Evening Organ Concerts, four Friday nights of inspiring music in the calm and beauty of the Cathedral.
The series brings together an exceptional mix of performers, from internationally respected cathedral musicians to exciting young artists at the start of their careers. Each concert offers something different, but all share the same aim: to create an atmosphere that is welcoming, reflective and full of musical warmth.
We close on Friday 31 July with Jan Liebermann from the Mainz Conservatoire. Already gaining a strong reputation in Germany and beyond, he represents a new generation of organists making their mark on the international stage. He will play a programme of Bach, Widor, Mendelssohn and Vierne.

Jan Liebermann (b. 2005) is currently studying at the University of Music and Theatre Munich with Prof. Martin Sander. Previously, he was studying with Prof. Gerhard Gnann in Mainz and Prof. Carsten Wiebusch in Frankfurt. His concert appearances have taken him to renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Essen Philharmonie and Müpa Budapest, as well as to major churches and concert venues in Germany and abroad, including Pisa Cathedral, Freiberg Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, King’s College Cambridge and York Minster.
In 2024, he performed all six Trio Sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach from memory in several public concerts; he has also presented Marcel Dupré’s Trois Préludes et Fugues from memory several times and he much looks forward to playing the beautiful Portsmouth Cathedral organ and its stunning Trumpet en Chamades!
