Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra: Imperial Majesty – Walton, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky

With the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Walton Crown Imperial March
Beethoven Piano Concerto No.5 ‘Emperor’
Tchaikovsky Suite No.3
Andrew Litton (conductor)
Jonathan Biss (piano)
Pianist Jonathan Biss joins Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5 ‘Emperor’. This is the largest scale of all his concertos and is an epic tour de force, pitching soloist and orchestra in a musical argument of unprecedented breadth and scale. A spirit of heroism infuses the music, whilst the sublime slow movement is one of Beethoven’s most profound.
Tchaikovsky’s Suite No.3 is entirely idiomatic of Tchaikovsky. Nobody else could have written the opening Elegy with its gorgeous themes and fluttering accompaniments!
